Telling a runner is not easy. Talk about a character, capturing nuances and still maintain the reality and history, is practically a business. Il personaggio in questione è Hugo Koblet , elegante, bello, dotato di un grandissimo talento. Nelle foto e nei filmati è spesso ripreso con l’immancabile pettinino che usava dopo la gara. Il ragazzo aveva le caratteristiche per imporsi sopra tutti, persino sul campionissimo che rispondeva al nome di Coppi. Eppure la sua stella ad un certo punto della sua carriera si oscurò, misteriosamente, oscuramente. La fortuna di Koblet cangiò in disgrazia e caduta, non solo in senso metaforico.
Il documentario, dal titolo “Hugo Koblet - Pédaleur de charme ”, cala lo spettatore nell’atmosfera del Dopoguerra. Il soprannome era stato inventato da uno chansonnier francese, Jacques Grello. Nel filmato le immagini d’archivio si alternano alle interviste di chi lo ha conosciuto, per dare poi spazio alle ricostruzioni da fiction. In questo alternarsi fra bianco e nero realistico, con il colore della storia romanzata, c’è probabilmente la chiave interpretativa di questo lavoro. Negli spezzoni in bianco nero, ritrovi la pedalata vera di Koblet che trionfa nel Tour of Italy in 1950.
